Chris Monson is a principal & senior retail investment specialist at Mountain West Commercial and is a 34-year veteran of the real estate shopping center industry. Chris has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, including retail investment sales, retail land sales, leasing of retail properties, retail development, and exclusive tenant representation. Chris’ business philosophy is centered on building trust and integrity with his clients. His success has resulted in the culmination of over $2 billion in transactions. Chris has helped investors buy and sell over 120 shopping center projects totaling over 4,200,000 SF, and been involved in over 5,000 lease transactions. While at Mountain West Commercial (1999 – 2018), Chris has been a top performer in the retail division each year. Backed by his extensive knowledge of the market and broad resources, including Mountain West’s comprehensive information database (ASTRO), Chris is a skilled negotiator who is well versed in the nuances of lease and purchase negotiations. Whether representing the seller or buyer as well as the landlord or tenant, he is a key asset in the development, leasing, acquisition and disposition of retail properties. Chris won the exclusive national account with Gen X Clothing and has referred retail site selection business to brokers nationwide in 15 states completing 65 Jr. anchor locations. Prior to joining Mountain West Commercial, Chris worked at Barlow-Neilsen Associates’ as a retail division head. He was the top commercial producer for six years from 1992-1998. Prior to 1992 Chris developed, leased and managed shopping center projects for a local Utah developer Tate/Brubaker. Chris is involved in many organizations and holds several professional designations that keep him abreast of up-to-date real estate information to better serve his clients. Organizations include the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute where he has held the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation since 1997. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) where he has served in the recent past as the Intermountain Retail Chairman. Chris is a past member of the Institute of Real Estate Management where he earned the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation in 1991. Chris has been chosen twice to represent the retail industry statewide by speaking and presenting at the NAIOP/CCIM Symposium.
