Chris Monson, CCIM is a Principal & senior retail investment specialist at Mountain West Retail-Investment and is a 26-year veteran of the real estate shopping center industry.  Chris has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, including retail investment sales, retail land sales, leasing of retail properties, retail development, and exclusive tenant representation. 

 

Chris’ business philosophy is centered on building trust and integrity with his clients. His success has resulted in the culmination of over $600 million in transactions. Chris has helped investors buy and sell over 80 shopping center projects. While at Mountain West Retail-Investment, Chris has been the top Retail Division Salesman as well as ranked in the top 12 of all salesmen of the company each year.

 

Backed by his extensive knowledge of the market and broad resources, Mountain West's comprehensive information database, Chris is a skilled negotiator who is well versed in the nuances of lease and purchase negotiations.  Whether representing the seller or buyer as well as the landlord or tenant, he is a key asset in the development, leasing, acquisition and disposition of retail properties.

 

Chris’ experience in retail development includes leasing and asset management. This experience has benefited real estate landlords such as Wright Development Group, Manor House Development, Development Associates (DAI), General Growth Properties (GGP), Weingarten Realty, BH Properties, Doerken Properties, Kimco Realty Corp., Sorenson Development, Intermountain Development, Rimrock Construction, Ivory Development, Anderson Development, Smith Brubaker Haacke, First Security Bank, KSG Properties, Tate/Brubaker and Heartland Realty. 

 

Retailers such as Sears, Deseret Industries, Mervyn's, Roberts Crafts, Stein Mart, Wherehouse Music, Aaron’s Rents, Sonic Burger, Deseret Book, Genuine Parts Company (NAPA), Gen-X Clothing, Great Clips, Famous Dave's BBQ, Applebees, as well as other national and local tenants, have also relied on Chris to orchestrate their real estate expansion in the state of Utah.  Chris also exclusively represents the retail needs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with site selection for Deseret Industries and Distribution Services (Beehive Clothing), Deseret Book and Seagull Book.

 

Chris is a member of NAI National Retail Council Leadership Board which represents over 350 offices in over 45 countries worldwide. During the past 10 years, Chris won the exclusive national account with Gen X Clothing and has referred retail site selection business to his company nationwide in 12 states.

 

Prior to joining Mountain West Retail-Investment, Chris worked at Barlow-Neilsen Associates’ as a retail division head. He was the top commercial producer for six years from 1992-1998. Prior to 1992 Chris developed, leased and managed shopping center projects for a local Utah developer Tate/Brubaker. 

 

Chris is involved in many organizations and holds several professional designations that keep him abreast of up-to-date real estate information to better serve his clients.  Organizations include the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute where he holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) where he currently serves as the Intermountain Retail Chairman and is a past member of the Institute of Real Estate Management where he earned the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation.
